Killed in Action: Baghdad, Iraq; 06 January, 2005
 The new recruit (1996) |
On February 24, 1979 our "little man" as my Aunt called him was born. All through his life he loved to jog, sing, dance, act goofy, love life and work on his car. The summer of his senior year in High School came, and Brad decided to join the Houma National Guard at the young age of 17, knowing someday he could possible fight for his country, as his Grandfather George Bergeron (WWII), and Uncle George |
Bergeron Jr. (Vietnam) did. From the time he joined and the time he was sent to Iraq, Brad never once complained about the training and hard work that had to be put into it.
Then, September came, and it was time for him to leave us to defend his country along with his fellow soldiers, Brad was ready to go. On Christmas he sent his mother a digital camera with special pictures inside, of him holding a "Merry Christmas, I love you" sign. Then it was almost his time to come in for a week on leave, but, decided to give his leave to a fellow soldier out there to come see his little brother get married.
January 6, 2005 came, and Brad would never see his loved ones on his leave, even if he hadn't given up his pass to come home. At 6:00 pm (Iraq time), while on patrol, his Bradley Fighting Vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb, killing him along with 6 others. We received the horrible news the morning of Jan.7 and my life will never be the same. There's this emptyness in me now and in our family, but, we can say we are proud of him and he's our true fallen hero. During his time in Iraq, he was being promoted to Sgt. without him knowing. Brad will forever be missed and will always be in our hearts and lives. We love and miss you Brad. May you rest in peace our sweet guardian angel.
