Cesar Millan is bringing his dog whispering know-how to Washington on an upcoming episode of “Dog Nation.”
The animal training expert teams up with the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) to provide canines to serve as guide dogs for wounded veterans in need.
“They save our lives, they fight for our freedom, [why don’t we] return that as well by giving them a dog?” Millan said in a phone interview with ITK. “These are American heroes. Let’s treat them like it — let’s give them another American hero.”
The guide dogs, says Milan, help give disabled vets “a normal life” so they “feel like they can be independent.”
Last year, McGovern introduced a bill to give federal grants to nonprofit organizations that train service dogs for service members and injured veterans.
When asked whether it’s easier to train dogs or get lawmakers on board with his guide dog push, Millan suggests that man’s best friend might have the right idea.
“In the animal world there’s no political agenda; it’s for the pack: What makes sense? How do we all live happy? How do we all communicate?” says Millan. “When you go to Washington, it’s all political. They’re two packs: Democrats and Republicans. Everybody has their own agenda.”
